Performance can be thrilling. When truth combines with voice and physicality, magic can happen.
Authenticity and relatability are at the heart of my performance philosophy. If you don't believe in who you are, you aren't believable. Forming a character is kindred to painting with a blank canvas, devising from a neutral place, or illuminating a world without light. Colours, textures, and shades of light and dark can be layered to create an identity that is complex, dynamic, and truly unique. And a character that has been thoughtfully crafted can also inform the text, the music, and the connection to environment. Beginning at nothing allows the body to express without the weight of everyday life. Freedom from habit and tension enables full immersion. And when your body is engaged from your core to the tips of your fingers and toes, the potential for expression expands. Possibility is awakened. You know a performance is truly alive when you can feel the character on your skin and vibrating through your vocal cords.
